The North-East Arnhem Land (N.E.A.L) Aboriginal Corporation is one of the largest Aboriginal Corporations in Australia, both in terms of assets and revenue. N.E.A.L represents 26 Traditional Owner Clan Groups from North-East Arnhem Land. Our team consists of both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians working collaboratively to foster harmony and prosperity for all communities in the region.
We integrate Ngapaki (Western/European) practices with Yolngu knowledge systems in all our operations. This cross-cultural approach is central to the Corporation's success in regional development. N.E.A.L. traces its origins to YBE, established in 1968 with the goal of ensuring that the development of resources in North-East Arnhem Land benefits and enriches the lives of all Yolngu people in the region. Starting modestly as the Yirrkala Brickworks in 1968, it produced the bricks used to construct the Gove District Hospital. Today, N.E.A.L. has expanded its operations to provide a wide range of services, including mine rehabilitation, Indigenous labour hire, grounds maintenance, arboreal services, land management, horticultural services, smash repairs, vehicle hire, and mechanical work.
The objectives of the NEAL Aboriginal Corporation are to improve the well-being and quality of life of Indigenous people in the region. This includes providing relief from poverty, illness, suffering, distress, hardship, and any form of vulnerability faced by Indigenous communities in the area.
In December 2023, the N.E.A.L Board made the decision to purchase GRM to provide longevity to the Corporation.
